Proposal of Ideas

Magazine extract, for this task I intend to make a magazine extract including a Front Page, Contents Page and a Double Page Spread in Print format under the title of "Strain". My intended market is a market of 16-24 year olds who are interested in the Rock (Alternative) genre, comparitive to mainstream magazines such as Kerrang and NME as it seems to be a popular audience and genre to appeal to and is a personal interest of my own. The intention of my magazine extract will be to excite and cause compulsion in the audience to read my product through appealing images and text. The main technique I will use to provoke compulsion in the audience is through the use of exciting images which are appropriate to the genre, such as with mise-en-scene that is dark and reminescent of the common clothing seen within magazines within this genre, creating a sense of realism within the audience, causing them to feel comfortable with the magazine. To do this I will use models appropriate to the genre, who are linked to this genre, rather than dressing someone in clothes to make them seem so, yet remain without a sense of realism. While looking through my magazine extract I wish for the audience to have a feel of impatience pushing them on to read more of the magazine, due to the bold colours, use of pull-out quotes ande edgy images throughout the front page, contents page and double page spread which I plan to use. I want the extract to be appealing to my audience so to do this I am going to make good use of technical codes such as the positioning of the image to bring the front cover to the fore-front of my audiences attention. I feel my product will be popular with the audience as it follows a popular trend in rock magazines, yet offers a difference in the use of information (e.g. gigs, live events...) and brigther images (many of the images used in mainstream images dark) yet holding the fascination of the reader through technical codes, such as mise-en-scene and positioning.
